Make Music New York, June 21st teardrop park @ noon – As part of the city wide Make Music New York festival, we are sponsoring choral music reading session featuring pieces by living composers in New York. Scores are available to download on our site HERE, all you need to do is print them out, show up, and sing! The reading session will be lead by See-A-Dot Music Publishing director Fahad Siadat with the help of C4: the Choral Composer/Conductor Collective and a string quartet to help reinforce notes. Feature composers include Tarik O’Regan, Michael Dellaira, Jonathan David, and others.
Featured Composer and Piece
Harry Einhorn lives and works in New York City, though his extensive travel Indian has influenced a great deal of his work. Most of his music is inter-disciplinary in nature and combines music, dance, and the traditions of his own religion, Buddhism.
This month’s feature piece is a setting of a Tibetan Buddhist prayer, Seven Line Supplication to Guru Rinpoche, and is written in the original language though transliterated with English letters for the sake of performance. This text is considered sacred in Tibet, and even the paper it is written upon would traditional be treated with respect and veneration (never placed on the ground, stepped over, or thrown away). The music itself is driving and rhythmic, juxtaposing a repeated chant line over-layed with various melodic material creating a joyful and hypnotic piece of music. You’ll find a perusal copy of the full score and live recording of the piece as performed by C4: The Choral Composer/Conductor Collective, of which Einhorn is a member.
